Here’s how the new setting for “Automatically add linked passes” in Google Wallet functions

Google Wallet users can now anticipate the new “Automatically add linked passes” setting, recently introduced by Google. This feature comes after the recent rollout of transit payment verification settings, which aim to improve the overall functionality of the digital wallet app.

The new feature can be found in the “Passes” subsection of Google Wallet’s Android settings. It allows ticket providers to automatically add event tickets, promotions, offers and more to existing cards. This setting is enabled by default and aims to streamline the user experience by seamlessly integrating additional cards into the wallet, reports 9to5google.

According to Google, the “Auto Linked Pass” will be grouped with the primary pass, with a clear callout above it to notify users of the new addition. This feature supports various ticket types, including event, flight, transport, promotional, gift card, loyalty and general cards.

“Automatically add Linked Passports” functionality

The potential applications of this feature are versatile and practical. For example, users can link offers to existing loyalty cards, meal vouchers to inspection or event tickets, and parking cards to event tickets.

Concerns and control

While the automatic addition of linked passes offers convenience, there is concern that the ticket list will be cluttered with unwanted promotions and offers. To solve this, users can disable the automatic operation, allowing them to control the management of passes.

Although the “Learn more” link directs users to a Google support article that is not available, Google’s developer documentation provides insight into how Auto Linked Passes work. This functionality allows passport providers to send additional cards to users who already have an existing passport in Google Wallet, or even link cards to a primary passport.

The “Add Linked Cards Automatically” setting is part of Google Wallet version 24.10.x and appears to be more widely adopted compared to previous settings updates. As users explore this new feature, Google is working to ensure that it improves user experience without burdening users with unnecessary additions to the pass.
